Time soon for a haircut

Pruning is one garden topic that makes my eyes glaze over. I suspect that's because, in the first instance, pruning usually makes plants look worse, not better, and I feel as badly for them as I do for myself when I've had a particularly awful haircut.

'oneeye' is correct, these trees are indeed known as "widow-makers"in Australia. It is because they will drop one of their massive branches without warning. It does not need high winds etc to bring the branches down, it happens without warning and...
