The New Year Honours List features five Hawke's Bay people, but an American who has often called the province home during a 15-year involvement with New Zealand received the highest honour.
New York billionaire Julian Robertson, the developer of Cape Kidnappers, has received a KNZM (Honorary Knight Companion of the Order) for his philanthropy and investment.
A couple of retirees, Hawke's Bay's ``Mr Swimming'', John Beaumount, and eye surgeon, Dr David Sabiston, were honoured with the MNZM (Members of the Order).
The Queen's Service Medal was awarded to theatre powerhouse Gillian Davies, kaumatua for the Hawke's Bay District Health Board Bill Stirling, and entertainer and decorated serviceman Vic Viggers.
We feature the five's profiles on our website today.
