Acclaimed NZ movie screened
The film Maori Boy Genius, featuring Napier student Ngaa Rauuira Pumanawawhiti, will be screened in Havelock North next week.
The film, directed by Auckland film-maker Pietra Brettkelly, had its world premiere at the 62nd Berlinale International Film Festival in Germany earlier this year and has since toured the UK, France, Czechoslovakia, The Netherlands, Australia and Hong Kong. Next month it will be shown in the US, Canada, Denmark, Norway and Poland.
The New Zealand premiere took place in Auckland as part of the New Zealand International Film Festival.
The film follows Ngaa Rauuira Pumanawawhiti on his journey to Yale at the age of 15, the sacrifices his family made to send him there, and his return to New Zealand as a potential future political leader.
It will screen at Cinema Gold Theatre in Havelock North on September 26 and September 27.
