Daniel Hockey and Ruth Barton indulged their love of 30s jazz at the Gatsby Picnic yesterday, sharing the sounds of Joe Daniels and his Hotshots. It was the second year the Aucklanders have visited Hawke's Bay for the Geon Art Deco Weekend.

Their Auckland house is furnished with antiques. "But only if they work," Daniel said. "I got this gramophone going about a year ago."

It was word of mouth that brought them to the event.

"We heard good things about it, that Art Deco Weekend was a lot of fun and a good opportunity for people to dress up and have a good time. And we did."

Their favourite event was the Bicycle Belles leisurely cycle parade to East Pier for vintage bicycles on Saturday. "We have a vintage bicycle and we brought that down - it's a lot cheaper than a vintage car."
