There were plenty of smiles when Mitre 10 Mega marketing manager Kerry Meehan and director Graeme Ricketts met up with the CanTeen Hawke's Bay crew of Anita Young and sisters Laikyn and Danielle Noone.

They had a piece of paper to give them on Thursday - in the form of an $18,000 cheque, raised through the generous Hawke's Bay community, as well as businesses and sponsors who backed the fifth annual Mitre 10 Mega-Walk outing three weeks ago.

"It was a brilliant result," Ms Meehan said, adding that while the participation numbers were about the same as last year, an extra $4000 had been collected, largely thanks to the support of suppliers and sponsors.

The money will go toward staging camps and activities for young people having cancer treatment, and their supportive siblings.

"A big thank-you to everyone who supported us," Ms Young said.
