Be cautious with hikoi hitting road

Motorists travelling between Napier and Clive on SH2 on Waitangi Day are being urged to drive cautiously on the stretch, which will be the roadway for a planned hikoi.

People will be marching northward, with a police escort for additional safety, in the morning along the side of the highway.

No significant delays are expected.

Only minor delays of up to five minutes are anticipated at other open road events - mainly maintenance projects on SH2 and SH5.

Eight areas of SH2 between Napier and Wairoa have sealing and repair works taking place, while four spots from Napier to Takapau are the focus of roadworks.

Speed restrictions and stop/go signals are in place.

Some areas are also down to single lanes and there may be unsealed surfaces.

Work on the intersection of SH2 and SH5 at Eskdale is still taking place, as is pavement reconstruction work just north of Tarawera and between Glengarry and Te Haroto.
