Police are continuing an investigation into a fire in which a 57-year-old farmer died north of Napier but are still not commenting on the cause of the fire or the death.

Marty Carswell was found dead at the scene of a fire which destroyed his two-storey home in Darky's Spur Rd, Waikoau, late on Sunday afternoon.

Police have been at the scene of the blaze but would not comment on how the fire may have started.

Police Eastern District communications manager Kris McGehan said the investigation was "ongoing."
