Police have nabbed two boys who were on a stealing spree in Taradale.

Smart work by a member of the public yesterday resulted in police nabbing two boys they say had been on a stealing spree in Taradale.

"This was great work by a person who realised that something was amiss with these boys," Napier Area Commander Kevin Kalff said.

As a result of the quick call made by the local resident, police were quickly on the scene and picked up a 15-year-old boy and his 11-year-old companion. The youngsters are facing charges of car theft, interfering with a car and theft from a nearby supermarket.

Mr Kalff said the pair had been seen acting suspiciously around cars in Symons Lane, behind the main shopping precinct mid-morning. They were seen looking inside parked cars and ducking in and out of nearby bushes bordering Taradale Park. A patrol moved in and nabbed the pair who had since been referred to Police Youth Aid and CYF who will work with the boys and their families. Mr Kalff was delighted with the quick work by the person who first spotted them.

"We encourage anyone who sees unusual behaviour or anything out of place to ring us immediately so we can respond appropriately," he said.
