Chance to view art, craft in Wairoa

Wairoa art and craft folk are combining their talents for the first time in 19 years for the Wairoa Art and Craft Expo on Saturday.

Twenty-eight groups will demonstrate their craftwork, which includes jewellery, patchwork, wooden toys, floral art, stone sculpture and wrought-iron furniture.

The event is being hosted by Wairoa Friends of the Arts to raise funds for Wairoa Art Centre's leaky roof.

Organiser Jennifer Roper said the last expo of its kind was a week-long exhibition in 1991, and she thought it was time another was held to celebrate the talent and raise the profile of local artists. Raffles would be held and other wares would be for sale.

Entry $2, children under 5 free, 10am-4pm, Saturday, 9 October, War Memorial Hall, Wairoa.
