"New Zealand-born Scots," Ken Baxendine of Hastings said with a big smile and a broad Scottish accent as he and wife Roberta were on hand to greet two of the clan, Iain and Christine (Chris), who had flown in for Christmas in the Bay.

For Iain it was a long journey to catch up with everyone as he is based in the UK and generally gets home for Christmas every two years or so.

Chris lives in Auckland and always makes it home to the folks' place for the festive season.

Hawke's Bay is the best place to come to for Christmas," she said.

"No question. And it's great to just catch up with everyone."

Iain was pretty happy with how it was looking too ... it is the heart of winter in the UK and the temperature was in single figures when he left.

"It's so nice to have them home," Mr Baxendine said - home now being the Bay after the couple moved here from Scotland many years ago. "Nothing really planned ... we'll just be taking easy."
