"It'll be a big day for the Stags in the Plunket Shield as well," Central Districts chief executive Hugh Henderson said last night when asked if he wanted to add anything else following an interview on what's in store for fans at McLean Park, Napier, tomorrow.

"We'll be keeping an eye on that, too," Henderson said of the Alan Hunt-coached Devon Hotel CD Stags who are hosting the Northern Districts Knights at Saxton Oval, Nelson, in the final match for the bragging rights to first-class supremacy.

He said the outcome of the Wellington Firebirds versus Otago Volts encounter in the final round at the Basin Reserve was equally significant.

The Volts, who are the HRV Cup Twenty20 champions this summer, have whittled down CD's 13 points lead to nine.

The Firebirds, who have proved to be the nemesis of CD this summer in T20 and the shield matches, could do the Stags a favour if they beat or hold Otago to a stalemate although an outright victory will be enough for the green machine to become the 2012-13 champions.
