Cricket: Hawke's Bay women retain trophy with ease
The Hawke's Bay women's representative cricket team have retained the "Battle of the Bays Trophy".
The Bay blew Bay of Plenty away by 10 wickets at Owen Delaney Park, Taupo, on Sunday in blustery conditions.
Batsman Kelly Rangi put in an allround performance to show her bowling skills are getting sharper.
Former White Fern Anna Peterson and ND Spirit Tia Robinson showed some promise but BOP could only muster 109 in 40.3 overs.
Rangi and Rosemary Mair claimed three wickets each for Hawke's Bay with the former chipping in at a miserly 1.14 an over.
In reply, Hawke's Bay eclipsed the total with 112 runs from 20.4 overs with Rangi scoring 85 and Tammy Welsh (11 no) dutifully rotating the strike.
"The wind was quite blustery which saw bowlers on both teams struggling to bowl the lines they wanted," Hawke's Bay coach Bob Morgan said.
