Cultures show off their talent

An Egyptian Belly Dance, Indian and Irish dancers along with kapa haka performances made for a successful International Cultures Day held at Cornwall Park in Hastings on Saturday.

A flag ceremony officially opened the event while Te Aute College was the first to perform in the entertainment offering of the day, with a selection of haka and waiata. Guest performers who followed included the Sri Lankan Dance Academy from Wellington and Garage Walla, a Bollywood dance group from Auckland.


Hundreds of people visited the park during the day to see the entertainment, which was held from 11am to 3.30pm. The performances were coupled with food from all concerns and cultures of the world, with food from Thailand proving one of the popular stalls.
