Drink-drive Bay lawyer fined $600
A long-time Napier lawyer was fined $600 yesterday and disqualified from driving for six months after being snared in a pre-Christmas police drink-driving checkpoint.
Appearing before Judge Tony Adeane in Napier District Court, Richard Henry Hill, 66, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving with an excess breath-alcohol level of 693 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath (the legal limit is 400mcg).
A summary said he was stopped in Tennyson St, Napier, about 10pm on December 14, and tested after police detected he had been drinking.
Employed by Hilden Law, a branch of Lunn and Associates, he is a founding trustee and former deputy chairman of Sport Hawke's Bay, having served the organisation for more than 22 years.
