Police were last night understood to have still not found the driver of a car abandoned during a pursuit in which a police station wagon was damaged early yesterday.

Few details were available but the pursuit was understood to have started on the Hawke's Bay Expressway soon after midnight and ended when the BMW car sought by police was abandoned in Napier's south-eastern suburbs.

The police station wagon received suspension and left-wheel damage near the corner of Geddis Ave and Bright Cres and was put out of action.

A police dog was used to try to find those who fled the BMW.

A male was found hiding beneath a vehicle on a property about 2 hours after the pursuit began.
