DVD Review: Mirror, Mirror (+trailer)
Who would have thought that a story 200 years old still has currency today.
The Brothers Grimm fairy tale first published in 1812, then went on to Broadway in 1912 and today is still read to young children.
And it is still a winner at the box office.
This latest reincarnation keeps to the bones of the traditional tale while giving it a fresh look.
Academy Award-winning actress Julia Roberts gives a devilishly good performance as The Queen.
Snow White (Lily Collins) is the delightful young lass loved by all. When her father dies and the Queen takes over the kingdom, Snow is confined to the castle.
Hearing that the kingdom's people are suffering, Snow sneaks out and is shocked by what she finds.
An angered Queen banishes Snow from the castle and orders her killed.
But Snow finds safety in the forest with a band of rebel dwarfs.
These guys have plenty of attitude and offer lots more fun than the traditional dwarfs.
When a handsome prince enters the scene, the Queen sees a way out of her impending poverty and casts a spell over him.
Snow soon realises that the prince is her only hope of overthrowing the Queen and returning the kingdom to prosperity.
But she will need the help of her small friends to make this happen.
Mirror, Mirror successfully brings an old story to a new audience.
