Kaye Wishart from the Cancer Society and volunteer Liz Read got up early this morning to help decorate Clive's main street in anticipation of the 2012 Relay for Life.
The relay, in which teams of 10 or more will walk to raise money for cancer, is to be held at Farndon Park in Clive again this year, and the cancer society has begun decorating Clive in the traditional relay purple.
Cancer Society administrator Kaye Wishart said they were just starting to build up promotion in anticipation of the big event on March 3.
"We did that just as a bit of promo for next weekend," she said. "The important part is the survivors and carers, and the major fundraising for the cancer society."
Some Clive businesses were also planning to adorn their shops purple, and the school were doing some artwork.
"We try to get all the communities involved, and the children," she said. "The businesses have got behind it."
The society had teams registered from all across the region, including Wairoa and Central Hawke's Bay.
