Events likely to snarl traffic

While roadworks and cable laying continue to be carried out on and alongside Hawke's Bay's highways, the New Zealand Transport Agency is advising motorists to be aware, in the next week, of two sports and recreations events which will also likely affect traffic.

The first is the Tour of the Bay cycle event, which is being staged this Sunday.

"This will have some impact on motorists travelling on the Expressway State Highway 50A at the Evernden Rd roundabout and on SH50 between the Taihape Rd and Omahu Rd intersections at Fernhill," an NZTA spokesperson said.

Speed restrictions and stop-go signals will be in place, and delays up to five minutes can be expected.

For three days from next Wednesday the Hawke's Bay A&P; Spring Show will be taking place and traffic flows on the highway networks around Hastings are expected to increase.

Caution and patience is being advised.

During the Labour weekend between October 19 and 22 there will be no open road works taking place on the state highway network throughout the Bay so that anticipated increased traffic flows will not be disrupted.

Until then, however, cabling work will be carried out at sites between Pakipaki and Waipawa on SH2, pavement reconstruction at sites between Glengarry and Tarawera on SH50 and drainage work on SH50 between Maraekakaho and Tikokino.
