Expressway delays today

Police are advising motorists using the Hawke's Bay Expressway today to expect delays as investigations into two serious crashes on the stretch are carried out.

The section of highway between Prebensen Drive and Meeanee Quay will be reduced to one lane from 9am to 1pm on Thursday so the Police Serious Crash Unit can conduct detailed work on the two crash sites.

The first crash occurred last Tuesday, when a car and van collided on the northern approach to the Ahuriri Estuary bridge.

On Sunday, a 38-year-old man was killed when two trucks collided near the same location as the first accident.

A police spokesperson said traffic control would be in place and advised that delays would be likely, and motorists should use an alternative route if possible.
