Firefighters battle Hawkes Bay blazes
Two houses in the Hawkes Bay region have been badly damaged by fire overnight.
Firefighters were called to Long Range Road, in Blackhead in the Central Hawkes Bay, about 4.22am, where a cottage was ablaze.
Crews also attended a house fire on State Highway 2 in Nuhaka, near Wairoa, about 5.02am.
A fire service spokesperson said the houses were "well involved" in fire on arrival.
There were no reports of injuries as a result of the fires, she said.
Fire Safety is investigating the causes of the blazes.
