First grand prix victory
Hawke's Bay teenager Rebecca Porter notched her first pony grand prix win on Sunday at the Wellington Horowhenua Showjumping Championships in Foxton.
Riding Chobidong, Porter, headed off 15 other combinations. Five went through to the jump-off where the consistent Melanie Weal of Te Awamutu and Hopeful Illusion were first out, going clear in 40.93s. Next out was Porter who went clear in 40.27s. The next three chased hard but paid for their efforts with a rail a piece.
In the horse grand prix Waikato's Katie McVean and Dunstan Daffodil set a scorching pace as the first of five combinations into the jump-off. They flew home clear in 34.01s over the Heather McDonald designed course.
Auckland's Danielle Maurer and Blue were next out but picked up 12 faults, followed by Kumeu's Lisa Coupe and Bates Amaretto who took a rail at the Liverpool and then Waipukurau's Oliver Edgecombe on Billistic who went clear but couldn't match McVean's time.
Last to go was Dannevirke's Doug Isaacson and Major Brown who while clear, had to settle for second place behind McVean.
In the STH pro amateur rider Mandy Illston of Bulls and Valuation combined speed with accuracy and took the class ahead of Tim Finch of Waipukurau on Mr Munga 3 who were faster but took a rail.
