Police say they have no reason to believe foul play was involved in the death of a Napier woman whose body was found on the beach at Westshore on Tuesday.

Detective John McGregor, of Napier, said a post mortem examination was carried-out yesterday as part of the inquiry and a report was being awaited.

Police were still to talk with members of the woman's family and were not releasing her name pending those discussions.

Investigators were, however, still seeking information about the movements of the woman on Tuesday, particularly from the time she arrived at the beach.

Surfers discovered the fully-clothed body about 9.30am but police said the woman could have been in the water for some time before being found.

Mr McGregor said it was important police were made aware of any activity in the area.

A campervan which had been parked on the beach reserve was taken from the area by police and has been examined as part of the inquiry.
