A cool $1000 and the opportunity to have their work go global will be the reward for whoever takes what judges deem to be the best photograph during this year's Geon Art Deco Weekend.
The Art Deco Trust and Photographers Gallery Hawke's Bay have teamed up to launch a competition to find the best picture that "captures the essence of the weekend", the trust's general manager Sally Jackson said.
"We are looking forward to seeing the images that come through."
The winner will receive the cash prize and also have their picture considered for the 2012 Art Deco calendar.
The calendars are popular purchases and frequently end up going all around the world.
The top 12 entries will also form an exhibition at the photographer's gallery during next year's Geon Art Deco Weekend.
Gallery owner Shayne Jeffares said he was excited at being involved in the competition.
"There are thousands of people out on the street taking photos over the weekend - we want to capture some of these images and show them to the world."
Few people got the opportunity to see their photographic work put on show, and the gallery and the trust were delighted to create that opportunity, Mr Jeffares said.
Entry forms and details can be picked up at the Photographers Gallery in Tennyson St.
Entries close on February 25.
The Geon Art Deco Weekend officially gets under way next Tuesday and runs through until Sunday.
