Hastings skaters host competition

Hastings Rollerskating Club hosts the Central Districts League Rollerskating Competition this weekend.

Skaters will demonstrate styles including freeskating, dances, figures and precision.

Eileen Mills from the Hastings Club said skating had had a resurgence in the past three years. The club enjoyed several wins at the New Zealand National competition in Auckland in January.

"We had skaters who were skating their first national event and we came home with golds, silver and bronze - that's stunning for a small club like ours."

Skaters train at the Hastings Sports Centre or the Pettigrew-Green Arena three to four times a week, and a group is coached weekly at Matapiro.

The competition is at Hastings Sports Centre on Railway Rd from 9am to 5pm tomorrow and Sunday.
