Lost property from concert overflowing

An annual mission to reunite Mission Concert fans with things they left behind after the big night was over has started at Napier Police Station.

Property officers were yesterday holding a camera, a backpack, blankets, wallets, purses, sun hats, cellphones, sunglasses, prescription glasses, jewellery and keys.

An officer said some inquiries were being received and a few items were "matched" with owners, including two handbags handed back to "very grateful ladies".

The amount of lost property handed in appeared to have been less than in most years, possibly a consequence of there being a smaller crowd.

The number at Saturday night's concert by surviving Bee Gees brother Barry Gibb and American songstress Carole King has been estimated at about 18,000 people, about 25-30 per cent down on the number for last year's Rod Stewart concert.
