Two truck drivers escaped unscathed after a collision involving hazardous chemicals on Te Aute Hill this morning.

A road-marking truck collided with a Conroy Removals truck and trailer unit on the wide stretch of SH2 between Te
Aute Trust Rd and Te Onepu Rd about 8.20am, spilling paint and flammable thinning chemicals.

The driver of the road-marking truck was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital with minor injuries, and the other driver was uninjured.

There were no other passengers or vehicles involved.

Six fire appliances and a number of police were at the scene, and diversions were expected to be in place for most of the morning adding up to half an hour on to the journey time.
