Hawke's Bay professional motocross rider Kieran Scheele is eager to put the disappointment of missing out on the Woodville event behind him when he returns to Europe today.

Scheele, 20, who represented New Zealand at "the Olympic Games of Motocross" - the Motocross of Nations in France back in September - didn't race in Woodville because of licensing issues.

Had he splashed out for the correct licence to race at Woodville it would have cost $600.

"That's too expensive and I was disappointed in Motocross New Zealand's approach," Elsthorpe's Scheele said.

"I had been training hard and was hanging out to do some racing. It was a shame I couldn't put on a show for the home crowd."

The Napier Boys' High School product, who has been racing since he was 7, returned home in October.

Since then, he has raced in only two major events; the Auckland championships and the Valley championships in Waikato.

Scheele finished sixth in both events.

"I've had a tough time because I've had to switch from Suzuki to Honda, as the team I'll be racing for in Europe will be using Hondas."

Scheele will be Belgium-based. He will compete in the Belgium championships, the Dutch championships in the Netherlands, the British series and six world grands prix.

"I'm also keen to have another crack at the Motocross of Nations and help New Zealand improve on the 29th placing we got last year," he said.

His mechanic from last year, Napier's Henry Kells, is working for the Red Bull KTM outfit and Scheele intends to spend some time with the team.
