Mountainbiking: Bay duo outrace rivals

It was a Hawke's Bay quinella in the elite men's downhill in the sixth and final round of the New Zealand Mountainbike Cup Series at Eskdale on Saturday.

Havelock North's George Brannigan pipped Napier's 2009 junior world champion Brook MacDonald for the win.

Fifth round winner Matt Walker of Kawerau was third.

Hawke's Bay riders Izac Anderson and Scott Dockary were second and third respectively in the under-17 boys section.

Another host province rider Shaun Hodges was third in the masters one men's section.

Torran Kean of Hastings won the Hard Tailmen's title.

Hawke's Bay's sole entrant in the elite women's segment of yesterday's fourth and final cross country round in the cup, Bridge Lodge of Hastings, was fourth.

Whakatane's Karen Hanlen was the winner.
