Norsewood's the spot for rainlovers

While not drowning in rain, Norsewood weather-watcher Lyn McConchie's rainfall figures show her district has had more than its share.

"For the past three years, the Norsewood rainfall totals have all been up," she said.

"Our December 2012 total was 127mm, yes, under the previous year which was 150mm, but well up on the 2010 figure of 70mm."

Norsewood's total rainfall in 2000 was 1201mm, but in the past three years there's been even more rain, with 1362mm in 2010, 1285mm in 2011 and 1406mm in 2012.

"Our monthly averages have varied, from 113.5mm in 2010 to 117mm in 2012.

"So, on average we receive four-plus inches each month, but one of the reasons last year's rainfall totals were so high was that in July we had 260mm, about 120mm higher than usual," she said. "I think these figures show it's best to live in Norsewood if you're a farmer and want good rainfall."
