Future development of Ocean Beach will be mapped out after the Hastings District Council was invited to partake in a community planning workshop.

Andy Lowe, who is a shareholder in the Ocean Beach landowning companies, approached the council with the suggestion that he engage Australian town planning and design consultancy Roberts Day to convene the workshop next March.

The council's development and environment committee unanimously agreed to the process yesterday after the idea was presented by strategic development manager Mark Clews.

The workshop, he said, will involve a intensive planning process lasting from one to two weeks with a facilitator working with all interested parties to look at options and come up with a master plan for the area.

Mr Clews said the workshop would start with a clean slate.
