One dead, one injured in head on crash

One person died and another was seriously hurt in a head-on crash near Taupo yesterday.

The crash happened just before 3.50pm when a car appeared to have veered into the path of an oncoming truck, towards the Wairakei and of the East Taupo Arterial.

The truck driver was reported to be uninjured.

The section of the arterial from the intersection with Centennial Drive to the roundabout at the northern end of the 14-month old, 16km bypass, was closed after the crash and traffic was diverted through Taupo.
