Parking spaces go from Napier road
Requests from concerned residents and motorists travelling the stretch has led the Napier City Council to close off the last four parking spaces on the west side of Milton Rd and replace them with a broken yellow line.
The removal of the parking spots, for safety reasons, means there will be no parking at all on Milton Rd between Tennyson St and Napier Tce at the top.
The recommendation to cancel out the spaces was made by the council's Services Committee last Thursday and will be implemented on August 11.
"I think users of Milton Rd will be relieved that all parking will be removed," Mayor Barbara Arnott said.
"Clearly the road traffic has increased and this final step is a good decision."
People seeking parks in the area will be able to take advantage of a lowering of all-day concession parking at the Tiffin St Car Park to $4.
There was also room for 20 more cars to be parked there.
Mayor Arnott said with the new low daily tariff, and no observed parking "issues" elsewhere, it was safe to say the impact of restricting all parking on Milton Rd was unlikely to create any problems in the city's parking system.
