Pettigrew's $150K donation to park plan

Pettigrew family has thrown its support behind the $7.9 million upgrade and redevelopment of McLean Park, with a donation of $150,000.

Yesterday, the lounge in the Chapman Pavilion was named the Pettigrew Lounge at a special ceremony attended by Napier businessman Sir Russell Pettigrew and Napier Mayor Barbara Arnott.

Sir Russell started playing rugby at McLean Park at the age of 16, and was on the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union board for many years. He was president at one stage and then patron of the union. He is now a life member.

"I have lasting memories of playing rugby at McLean Park and I've always been a great supporter of the park and the administrators that run it," he said.

He is also right behind the redevelopment plans for McLean Park which will include replacing the current McKenzie Stand and upgrading existing facilities.

"It's a great ground, and it's great Hawke's Bay is back into the first division, but we can't remain there without good facilities," he added.

Mrs Arnott says she's delighted to see such great support for the redevelopment of McLean Park.

"There are plenty of opportunities for other local people and businesses to show their support for the park," she said.

Soon the two proposed corporate lounges in the new Graeme Lowe Stand will be up for grabs, which will provide entertainment areas for up to 500 guests.

Napier City Council, who manage the park, will approach local and national businesses over the coming weeks for expressions of interest.
