A man responsible for a 16-hour stand-off with police in Central Hawke's Bay earlier this week will be charged, police confirmed.

The resident of Swamp Rd, Ongaonga, holed up on his roof about 10pm Monday night after police attended a domestic violence incident at his property.

Hawke's Bay Police area commander Tania Kura said officers were initially called to the home about 6pm on Monday and the man then scaled his roof and refused to come down. She added the stand-off ended at 2pm on Tuesday, and the man was taken into police custody.

"He is facing several charges in relation to the family violence incident," she said. Morgan Tait
