The necklace, which doubled as an art piece, was listed on the Trade Me website yesterday under the heading Diamonds For Charity. Its auction would close at noon on Friday, September 17.

The necklace - valued at $3250 - displayed 18 set diamonds, a pink pearl, pink tourmaline, blue topaz and amethyst on a gold chain.

Local beauty Ruby Higgins was getting behind the cause in an effort to promote the necklace while the auction was open.

The auction was running in conjunction with the Hot Pink Charity Cocktail Party, with proceeds of both going towards the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. Trade Me agreed to waive the success fee for the cause. If the winning bidder was from the area, the necklace would be presented at the cocktail party that evening at the Hawke's Bay Opera House plaza.
