School flag at half mast in honour of Sir Paul Holmes

The high school Sir Paul Holmes' attended as a teenager in Hawke's Bay has lowered its flag to half mast following his death this morning.

Karamu High School principal Martin O'Grady and students lowered the flag this morning, and Mr O'Grady said it will remain in that position remembrance of Sir Paul Holmes until after his funeral.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been released.

Sir Paul Holmes attended the high school in the 1960's, and has returned on several occasions including to lecture on the dangers of methamphetamine in his campaign against "P".

Sir Paul last visited the school at Labour weekend last year for the school's Golden Jubilee and gave a speech, despite being very ill.

Sir Paul attended primary school in Haumoana, where he is being remembered today.

Moira Lindsay from Haumoana Primary remembers Sir Paul stopping off at the school to record an episode of "The Way We Were" and speaking at the school's 75th jubilee in 1996.
