Schools' mufti day gives cancer kids $2000 lift

Schools from throughout Hawke's Bay took part in the Harcourts Massive Mufti Day on Friday, raising more than $2000 for the Child Cancer Foundation.

Fifteen schools joined forces by holding a mufti day in which students were encouraged to dress in blue and donate a gold coin, with the aim of helping children suffering from cancer this holiday season.

An impressive total of $2091.70 was raised in conjunction with The Edge and Harcourts, and will be presented to the foundation on Monday.

Child Cancer Foundation Hawke's Bay fundraiser Linda Walsh said the number of schools that decided to come on board had been fantastic.

"The effort pupils and teachers put into dressing up to 'beat the blues' and support the Child Cancer Foundation was overwhelming," she said.

The Edge Hawke's Bay operations manager Jesse Howes said they had been blown away by the result.

Harcourts would also give $500 to the school that was judged the "best in blue", although no decision had been reached so far.
