Aftershocks are continuing in Canterbury with some shallow earthquakes keeping residents on edge.
The biggest since sunrise today was a quake measured 3.6 on the Richter scale which struck at 9.04am.
The epicentre was 10km north-east of Darfield and had a focal depth of 7km, meaning the effects of the shallow quake were mor epronounced.
 Two minutes later another aftershock hit Canterbury. The quake measured 3.2 on the Richter scale and struck at 9.06am. The quake had a focal depth of 5km.
Overnight residents reported fewer aftershocks which allowed them to get the best night's sleep since the 7.1 quake on Saturday.
