It may not be for everyone but the Hawke's Bay Naturist Club says going clothes free is nothing to get flustered about.

The club has 85 members throughout the North Island from all walks of life and has been running for almost 50 years.

"We get everybody and anybody - a businessman from Auckland to someone like me from Palmerston North," public relations Officer Kay Marsh said.

"We have families coming along and people seem to accept it a lot more, they are more open about these things."

There was no pressure to go completely naked either, if people felt uncomfortable or it was a bit too chilly they were welcome to cover up.

"We are not stupid in winter, if it's cold we wear clothing," Ms Marsh said.

"Some people bring kids along, then when they reach their teens they may see it as a stigma and choose not to take part."

The appeal for people of all ages was meeting new friends and making use of Hawke's Bay's beautiful club called Rapere, based in picturesque farmland, in Puketitiri.

"Anyone can come along anytime, but we do have things happening to get together once or twice a year."

One such event is an annual open weekend, starting this Saturday, January 21, where people can come and take a look at the club.

A bring your own picnic lunch will start the day followed by afternoon tea, which is provided.

There will be a range of activities including games and sports, swimming, boating on the man-made dam, confidence courses or soaking in the outdoor spa.

A member of the club will be on hand to give visitors a guided tour.
