About 3000 people braved a brief rain shower to add a little singalong festivity to their Christmas build up at last night's annual Carols By Candlelight.

The Port of Napier Brass Band had most in the festive mood with their Christmas classics song-list, including Silent Night, Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Jingle Bells.

Right on cue, light rain began to fall from the moment the first note rang out at Napier's Botanical Gardens. But it didn't deter the stoic band, nor the happy revellers.

Band manager Todd Donaldson said Napier's Botanical Gardens were an ideal location for the singalong.

"I think it's 100 odd years it's been going here and it's one of Hawke's Bay's only natural amphitheatres," he said. "Because it's so enclosed it gives a great sort of atmosphere. It's a more family oriented crowd. A lot of people just come and sit with their families and have a wine. They just sit back and listen and enjoy."
