State Highway 2 will be closed for an hour on Saturday 21 July between Whirinaki Beach and Tutira School between 1pm and 2pm File

People planning to drive to Wairoa on Saturday, July 21, are advised to check the timing of the journey because of a one-hour closure of State Highway 2.

The NZ Transport Agency will close the stretch between Whirinaki Beach and Tutira School between 1pm and 2pm to enable contract crews to do slip repair work. No detours will be available and the closure points will be manned.

The advance notice work will give people planning to travel to Wairoa or Gisborne, from Napier, plenty of time to adjust their timing.

At present, slip repair work is being carried out on the SH2 stretch just south of Kotemaori, the north side of Mohaka Hill, and north of the Wharerata Ranges near Gisborne. Extra care should be taken at Kotemaori and Mohaka Hill, where minor delays are likely.

Minor delays are also anticipated at underground cabling and general road works sites on SH2 near Pakipaki and on the Takapau Plains. On SH50 maintenance crews are at work at the south end of the Takapau Plains. Meanwhile, major roundabout construction is continuing at the Pandora Rd, West Quay and Humber St intersection. The NZTA recommends that motorists take the alternate Prebensen Drive/ SH2B Expressway route.
