Streets in shutdown for Deco celebration

Several stretches of Napier's central city streets will have the "closed" sign going up tomorrow as the Geon Art Deco Weekend starts to peak.

The top of the town, Herschell St from Emerson St to Hastings St, will close off from noon tomorrow through to 5.30pm Sunday. It is traditionally a gathering point for many of the vintage vehicles that arrive for the weekend.

Marine Parade from Albion Lane through to Browning St, and Tennyson St from Hastings St to the Marine Parade, will be closed from 5.30pm tomorrow through to 5.30pm Sunday.

In announcing the temporary closures, the Napier City Council said there would be no on-street parking within those areas, and any unauthorised vehicles would be towed away.

Other street closures

  • Hastings St from Tennyson St to Dickens St, between 5.30pm and midnight tomorrow.
  • Emerson St from Clive Square East to Clive Square West, Clive Square East and Clive Square West - full length, Carlyle St from Tennyson St to Clive Square West, between 6am and 2.30pm on Saturday.
  • Emerson St from Clive Square East to Hastings St, Dalton St from Tennyson St to Dickens St, Hastings St from Dickens St to Tennyson St, Saturday from 10.30am to midnight.
  • Tennyson St from Herschell St to Cathedral Lane, Hastings St from Emerson St to Browning St, Sunday between 9am and 1pm.
