When Brendon Lodge took part in Tremains Corporate Triathalon as a teenager, he had no idea he would end up organising it, 17 years on.

The annual event, which took place yesterday at The Esplanade Domain in Westshore, was a great success with participation well up on 2012.

"Last year we had 367 teams, this time we were well over 400. I think a lot of people realise it's not only a business networking opportunity but a great team building exercise," he said.

"Several businesses doubled their entries on last year."

Teams were required to complete a 600m swim or 1700m kayak, 5km run or walk and a 20km bike ride.

"A swimming leg was held at Pandora Pond, the run went from Pandora Pond to West Shore Domain and the cyclists went to Bay View and back."

The day went off without a hitch, with no major injuries or incidents on the course.

"It was a perfectly executed event in that respect."

Tremains Corporate Triathlon has been running since 1993 and is still the largest corporate team event in Hawke's Bay.

While designed for fun, it was also challenging enough to allow for an element of friendly competition.

"Some people stack their teams but in the scheme of things that's about 10 per cent, the rest are there to have fun."

All profits raised on the day will be split between the Hawke's Bay Multisports Club and Sport Hawke's Bay.
