Telecom plugged in to visitors' needs

Waimarama Beach
Waimarama Beach

Patrons of Waimarama Beach will reap the benefits of Telecom's Cell Site on Wheels (COW) this summer as the opportunity to extend cellphone coverage crops up in Hawke's Bay.

Telecom has a limited number of COWs to distribute around the country, which are usually used for large events such as the Rugby World Cup or Rhythm and Vines, and this one will be stationed in Waimarama until the end of February for service to the permanent residents as well as the usual holiday makers. As cellphone coverage for Waimarama Beach has been requested for some time, Telecom is happy to be able to provide a temporary solution.

The 7m tall COW will offer coverage to the Waimarama township as well as the central areas of the beach.
