BIG SOUNDS TONIGHT: Catch all the hits from the 1930s with the Hawke's Bay Jazz Club Big Band plus The Dave Atkin Band, in an 8.15pm to 11.30pm free concert at the Sound Shell.
CENTRAL BAND OF RNZAF: As part of the RNZAF 75th celebrations this magnificent 65 piece band will perform a one-hour lunchtime concert in Napier's Art Deco Municipal Theatre. Tickets $12, available at Ticketek.
CHUFF AND BURBLE :View the display of stationary engines on the Napier foreshore by the Sound Shell. These vintage engines always draw an admiring crowd as they chuff and burble away.From noon to 10pm.
DEPRESSION DINNER: They were grim days - but you'll eat well at this popular dinner event. Start at the Marine Parade Soup Kitchen (Tom Parker Fountain) then pack up all your cares and woes and trudge to Memorial Square. At Tin Town you'll get your main course and pud - plain 30's food, but it's good for you. Dressing down is de rigueur for this event. 6pm. Tickets $50.
FORGET-ME-NOT DECO DELIGHTS Enjoy the atmosphere inside a genuine Art Deco building as the Masonic Hotel offers 'Art Deco Showtime' - a dazzling collection of period songs from the 20s and 30s performed by international artist 'Forget Me Not' aka Sharon Elizabeth in stunning costume. A delicious inclusive high tea included. 10.15am. Tickets $42
GOLDEN DECO HARVEST: The Hawke's Bay Vintage Machinery Club will be holding an action display featuring the machinery of club members. This will include harvesting a crop of barley, baling the straw, workup of the ground, and sowdown to permanent grass. INNER HARBOUR COACH TOUR: A tour which takes in the fringes of the Inner Harbour, also known as the Ahuriri Lagoon, to a dramatic hilltop lookout at the northern end, into the normally inaccessible centre where sailboats once cruised, to Park Island Cemetery and the earthquake community grave where most survivors were buried. The tour finishes with afternoon tea in a private garden at Poraiti with a dramatic view over the harbour to Napier. 2pm departure from Napier Municipal Theatre, Tennyson St. Tickets $48.

OPENING SOIREE: Everybody who's anybody will be showing off his or her finery at the traditional Friday night gathering, which officially opens the 24th Geon Art Deco Weekend. PLUS FORE GOLF TOURNAMENT: This 18-hole Ambrose competition is being held at the picturesque Napier Golf Club's Waiohiki Course, Taradale. Registration at 9.15am for a shotgun start at 10am - prize-giving at 3pm. Field limit 120. Entry $45 per person includes light lunch, drinks, prizes and great music at the 19th hole.
PROMENADE WALK: Stroll beneath the Norfolk pines lining Napier's Marine Parade and hear about the 'Brighton of the South Seas'. The elegant buildings of the old Napier, and the creation of Napier's Art Deco front garden built on the rubble of the great catastrophe of 1931.
