Police have made an arrest following a vicious assault at the Hastings KFC in September that left a man with two fractures to his jaw.

A 19-year-old Flaxmere man was due to appear in the Hastings District Court today on a charge of wounding with intent to injure.

A 15-year-old Flaxmere youth has also been referred to police Youth Aid in relation to the same incident.

Detective Rob Parker of Hawke's Bay CIB said police had received assistance from members of the public and restaurant staff who were present at the time.

He said the witnesses along with information from the victim and CCTV footage from the restaurant had been very helpful in piecing together what had happened on the night.

The 51-year-old victim had his jaw broken in two places, teeth knocked out and received injuries to his arms and legs as a result of the assault.
