A morning crash in Hastings yesterday saw one man taken to hospital for observation after the van he was in was involved in a collision with a car and tipped onto its side. The accident happened about 10.09am at a busy intersection on the corner of Hastings St North and Avenue Rd South.

The van had been heading along Hastings St towards New World supermarket when the accident occurred road policing constable Bob Jones said.

"The car [a Honda Civic] was quite small and has come up underneath. Being top-heavy the van has tipped over onto the passengers' side."

There were two men in the Pedersen Electrical van, one of whom was not hurt. The driver of the Civic also walked away unscathed.
