About 100 people marched to the HB Regional Council offices to protest a lack of consultation over oil and gas exploration in Hawke's Bay, and managed to hand a letter over to the Minister of Energy and Resources Simon Bridges, asking for a moratorium on oil and gas exploration. The letter also asked that the oil and gas industry earn its "social licence to operate" by being more open and ethical in the way it operated. Photos Glenn Taylor

Hawke's Bay is one part of New Zealand which gets very dry over the summer months, but in 2012/13 it is exceptionally dry. Hawke's Bay has clocked up six consecutive months of below-average rainfall to the end of February. Heretaunga Plains was the lowest, recording 25 per cent of normal rainfall.

The third race in the IronKids Triathlon Series was held yesterday, where youngsters aged between 8 and 13 had the opportunity to hone their skills in a down-sized version of the gruelling sport.
