ROWING: Under-17 boys in tight struggle over Wanganui

The Hawke's Bay Rowing Club's under-17 boys squad led the way for the club at the annual Jury Cup regatta in Wanganui on Saturday.

The eight of Daniel Weeks, Todd Hale, Jacob Laird, Ben Bullock, Brendan Lack, Ellery Nott, Richard Harrison and Jackson Smith with Joe McCallion as coxwain won their final after a tremendous battle with Wanganui Collegiate.

Lack and Laird won their double scull final and later in the day Smith, Nott, Hale and Harrison were second in their fours final. Smith completed the under-17s fine contribution with a second in his single scull final.

Louise Thompson and Alana Bayly won the women's club double scull final.

Adam Tripp and Michael Harrison won their respective heats of the men's club single sculls and then combined with Blair Harrison, Campbell Lowe and coxwain Hamish Trautvetter to finish third in the men's club quadruple scull.

James Pearson and Ben Bullock finished third in the men's club double scull. Simon Lack was second in his men's open single final as was Blair Harrison in his men's under-21 single final.

Hawke's Bay's women's novice four of Julia Trautvetter, Kelsie Tripp, Kasey Papuni, and Molly Woods with coxwain Trista Knoche won their final before combining with Ellen Pulford, Alice Sykes, Sarah McIlroy and Sarah Forshaw to finish third in their novice eight final.

The Bay's other novice women's four of Casey Myers, Page Milner, Sinead Gage and Ashleigh Lewis finished third.

Kate Barker, Astra McKellow, Laura Kuggeleign and Jess Emmerson finished third in the women's club quadruple scull. Sarah Alexander, Gabrielle Rogers, Cassie Stanford and Alexandra Ritchie were second in their women's open coxless four final and the same combination were third in the women's open quad.

The Hawke's Bay Rowing Club's next regatta will be at Lake Karapiro in a fortnight.
